A much-welcomed addition to the Sorrento Restaurant scene, Ristorante Donna Sofia just moved from the suburbs into the centre of the city, and the new locale is impressive. Elegant. Warm. Chic. Romantic. Nothing like any other place in Sorrento.
Located on Via Tasso, a short walk from the main square, the restaurant pays homage to the iconic Neapolitan actress Sofia Loren. Here diners are offered an inviting experience from the moment they walk through the entrance and led past the glass-walled kitchen, where they can glimpse upon the deliciousness that awaits, including the tempting desserts, made by Lina Aversa, the talented house pastry chef and owner of the restaurant.
The main dining room is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic dinner. As always, based on a menu that features the classic dishes of the Sorrento Coast and newly inspired creations dreamt up by the chef, which are all designed around flavour and simplicity and best quality seasonal and artisanal ingredients. The ambiance is warm and intimate, with the high stone arches crowning the sleek interior, Italian ceramic floor tiling, white walls adorned with stunning photos of Sofia Loren, wooden furniture draped with white napery, and dim lights softly illuminating the room.
Whereas, upstairs in the garden room diners have the chance to sit back, relax and enjoy an al fresco meal, seated under the wooden pergola at a table nestled in the refreshing greenery. Or even, just a couple of chilly beers or one of their deliciously-crafted cocktails, and a wood-fired Neapolitan pizza.
And the impressive doesn’t finish here, as Mario Capozzi, the proprietor / Lina’s husband, has also meticulously constructed one of the most beautiful wine cellars in Sorrento, which is not only well fortified, but also beautified with lava stone walls, thanks to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. Here wine tasting are conducted by the house sommelier, Luigi, every Monday to Thursday, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Wonderful experience.
