Ristorante Il Buco | Michelin Star Restaurant in Sorrento
Located near the Piazza Sant’Antonio, Ristorante Il Buco is considered one of the best fine dining destinations in Sorrento. The restaurant is built in the former wine cellar of a 16th century monastery, a refined and elegant dining space that features stone vaulted ceilings, soft lighting and natural elements —offering a warm and inviting ambiance to tuck into and take refuge from the bustle of the city streets.
Owned and run by chef Peppe Aversa, Ristorante Il Buco earned its coveted Michelin star for its modern interpretation of the classic cuisine of the Sorrento Coast, back in 2004 —and has proudly retained it ever since. Here, diners can look forward to masterfully crafted dishes made with finest-quality ingredients, using innovative techniques that celebrate simplicity; the pure and direct flavours of the featured ingredient, and delicate, artful touches —that not only delight the eye but the palate as well.
The menu à la carte offers an intriguing selection of dishes to choose from, which all reflect chef Peppe’s love and deep respect for the culinary treasures of the territory, and the given moment in the season. A must-try is the spaghetti with lemon scented scorpion fish with bottarga (dried fish roe) and sun-dried tomatoes, one of the staples on the ever-changing seasonal menu, and easily one of the best pasta dishes served up in Sorrento. Or else, diners can opt for one of the tasting menus that offer an unforgettable gastronomic experience, guaranteed to stimulate the palate and all sensory else, one enchanting dish at a time.
Diners can choose the six-course tasting menu that features fish and seafood for £120, or land and territory for £110. Or else, there is an ‘I trust you’ menu that the chef will create especially for you, depending upon your taste preferences. He offers five-courses for £100 and eight-courses for £120. The paring of wines with the degustations is an additional cost, depending upon the menu.
The newly-renovated wine cellar, located on the second floor (more info below), houses the over 1200 bottle collection that make up their enticing wine list, which includes an excellent selection of finest wines of Italy and throughout the world. Plus over 100 labels of champagne and sparkling wines—all thoughtfully selected to pare-perfectly with the food on the menu, and create a fine dining experience and memory for people, that will hopefully last a long, long time. Here’s Chef Peppe.
During the Christmas holidays we had an outstanding 6-course tasting at Il Buco, that we are still thinking about. Starting with these delectable, colorful eggplant and tomato meatballs filled with lusciously smooth buffalo mozzarella (featured above) —and finishing up with an appetizing assortment of desserts, and wine, to linger-over. Warm, friendly ambiance. Great service, food and wine. An exemplary dining experience to recall.
